NEWS CENTER...Up to date Vintage News...

Made it down to Lavonia, Georgia this past weekend for the "Legends of Dirt Track Racing Reunion". Once again had a very good time even though it did rain "just a little". Many thanks to Harold Roach and his crew for putting on this event with co-operation from the NVRA and the Georgia Automobile Racing HOF. We'll have some photos and more southern news here later this week.

It was nice getting to meet Ron Coon's friend Phil Claussen from the upper midwest area. Phil is a guy that really gets around as he races his good looking #X mostly in the NY area with the Mid-State group but he can get the job done just about any place he decisdes to go.
Great looking eastern mod car...and Phil blames the performance of the car on his main wrench...great bunch!

Also...be sure to check out the JIMMIES Old Time Racing Photos site later this week for a look at the car and driver who won the "best looking car" award at Lavonia.

And...where were those "restored race cars" going up I-77 near Elkin, NC. Friday afternoon? Just caught a quick look at a couple of "oldies" going north...

Added a new link...Lee Butler races with the NVRA down south and he has a web site up...

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Patrick Michael Bell (a week late)...Mike celebrated on March 17th, St. Patricks Day, and in Mike's words..."his blood runs green"! We'll be seeing Mike along with a host of others at the May 18-19th Lavonia get together.

Also...Mike Bell has informed us of some things in the works with the Georgia Auto Racing HOF and some activity in the Tennessee area coming up...we'll keep you informed.

Check out Steve Hardins VARC photos taken at Sharon Speedway in 2000 HERE.

Received a newsletter from the Midwest Oldtimers Vintage Race Car Club which is located in the Indiana area. I will be posting a couple photos of their cars here soon. Anyone wanting info on this club can call (765) 649-2198 and talk to Jack Ball.

Just learned that the "Dixie Nationals" for the vintage racers at the Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia will be held on Saturday October 20, 2001. This will be a week earlier than normal...one week before the Moonshine Festival in Dawsonville, Georgia. More on this one as it becomes available.

The NVRA group already has a hand full of shows scheduled for 2001 and they are working on more. Roy Parker is out working hard to get some dates for that club. In fact, Roy has parked his own car for a while just to concentrate on scheduling for the club. Be watching here in the coming weeks for a full schedule not only from the NVRA, but from many clubs around the country.

The GARHOFA has been busy too! Newly elected officiers for 2001 are...Bob Moore, president (and I understand that the election here went much smoother than the national election for president), Aubrey Holley is the new vice-president, Tommie Clinard is the Sec/Tres. and the board of directors will be Woody Moore, Lanier Englett, Sam Colvin and Jimmy Summerour. The CEO for this group is Jimmy Mosteller. Mike Bell has decided to step down and concentrate his time on being the "historian" for the group. This club is on the move!

Now to the NVRA and changes there...In an election on Dec 10th...Berkley Greenway is now the new sec. and editor of that newletter . And in that newsletter comes the information that Otis Green is the new president for this club. Lee Butler is vice president, treasure is Kevin Brookshire and the safety inspectors are Bryon Flower and Levie Jones.
PR Director is Bob Furnad, event coordinator for SC is Roy Parker and for GA it's Bob Butler and Sam Colvin.
The NVRA club is working on several areas to improve things with them...such as a new "point system" and of course they're always working on rules to improve the safety for club members.
*We would like to publicly thank Roy Parker for keeping us updated here on the NVRA...We can only post what we have and Roy has been one of the very few who has continued to send us updates on the NVRA for us to post. In fact...Roy and Mike Bell with the GARHOFA have both done a great job.

Good luck to all the southern vintage racers in 2001. We'll be seeing you at the Lavonia meet in May for sure!

Be watching for a new schedules page here in the coming weeks...

Any clubs out there with news and/or schedules, let us know what's going on so we can get YOUR news posted here at VINTAGERacers on the Net and JIMMIES Old Time Racing Photos.

Be sure to check out Ken Paulsen's page with the "Moonshine Festival" and the complete "Dixie Vintage Nationls" report. Thanks to Ken! Be sure to check out The Wayne Durbin Vintage site as well as the Fastway's site to see photos from the October 28th vintage races at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA. Fastway even made a visit over to Dawsonville, GA. to the Moonshine Festival...and the photos prove it. Enjoy!

Now that the Vintage racing season is complete...we'll be looking for 2001 schedules from the different clubs around the country soon. Just e-mail them to VINTAGERacers on the Net.

We recieved another newsletter from the ModMan up in Milwaukee, Wis. this past week. Once again it's full of information on the Vintage Modified Stock Car Club in that area. To get your copy... send \\$10 to John Surges, 3321 S. 54th St., Milwaukee, Wi. 53219. He'll send you the bi-monthly newsletter for a year so you can keep up to date with our most northern club. I found this issues "Car-Geneology" article most interesting.

And...just because it's winter doesn't mean the vintage news stops...no sir...we'll keep you up to date here at VINTAGERacers on the Net throughout the winter months on all the vintage racing world. I look for some big news coming from some of the clubs this winter concerning major events in 2001.
